Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Trade Minister Todd McClay have announced New Zealand has concluded negotiations on a free trade agreement with India.

The deal will remove or reduce tariffs on 95% of New Zealand exports, with 57% duty-free from day one and 82% once fully implemented.

Key gains include immediate tariff cuts on sheep meat, wool and forestry, plus phased access for horticulture, wine and dairy.

New Zealand will also offer up to 1667 skilled work visas annually and expand the working holiday scheme.

Luxon said the agreement will be signed in the first half of next year and will deepen economic ties with India.
