Netball New Zealand chief executive Jennie Wyllie has resigned.
The organisation this morning released a statement announcing Wyllie, under scrutiny following the controversial standing down of Silver Ferns coach Dame Noeline Taurua, was leaving to “take time with her family and explore other opportunities".
"We sincerely thank Jennie for her valuable contribution to netball over the last 16 years."
Wyllie said in the statement: "It has been a privilege to work with such talented and passionate people, and I am thankful for the opportunities and many memorable moments. There have also been challenges along the way, which come with any leadership role. Now, it feels right to focus on my family and look ahead to new opportunities."
Netball NZ chairman Matt Whineray said: “Jennie has guided the organisation through significant change and challenge, and we wish her all the very best for the future."
The organisation’s board will appoint a replacement chief executive in the new year, the statement said.
Netball NZ finance officer David Cooper will be acting CEO until then.
Wyllie was appointed chief executive in 2016 after being with Netball NZ for seven years in other roles.
Dame Noeline was stood down just days before the first match against South Africa this year but was later reinstated.
In late September, Wyllie told 1News she believed she was the right person to lead the organisation, amid the ongoing saga with Dame Noeline.
"We need to have strong leadership, we need to be able to unite as a board and a collective of netball in its entirety and I feel that I've got the skills to be able to do that and lead us through," Wyllie said.
