A man has been arrested after a stolen vehicle he wanted to use in his getaway became stuck in mud during a burglary at a west Auckland farm yesterday.
Police were called to the incident after the man reportedly entered a shed in Henderson Valley at around 3.15pm and began removing items.
Acting Inspector Nick Salter said the man was seen then leaving the property in a stolen ute, which shortly after became stuck. He then left on foot.
The 40-year-old then allegedly tried to steal a vehicle from a neighbouring property, but was challenged by nearby workers.
"He was ultimately unsuccessful at stealing a van and quad bike, making off on foot with various tools," Salter said.
Police were then deployed into the area with a dog handler quickly on the scent.
The man was the located at an address where he was taken into custody both "muddy and saturated".
He was then charged with burglary and possessing cannabis, and is expected to appear in the Waitākere District Court today.
