The Ministry of Education has congratulated a student who never missed a day of her entire 13-year school career.
Casey Paul, who recently finished up at Rotorua Girls' High School, has had perfect attendance from the very first day she started school.
"While we know 100% isn't often possible, it's an incredible achievement for Casey and one worth celebrating," the Ministry of Education said.
"When we asked Casey what's the secret, she attributed her 100% record to being a healthy kid, liking the routine of school and getting to see her friends, the support of her family, and some incredible teachers - including most recently at Rotorua Girls' High School."
She had previously attended Westbrook School and Rotorua Intermediate School.
"What an achievement Casey!' Rotorua Girls' High School said on Facebook.
"We along with the previous schools you attended, are incredibly proud!!!"
Casey previously told RNZ that she had, at times, been ill, but this had never fallen on a school day.
"I have been sick, but surprisingly have only been sick in the holidays or in the weekend," she said in January this year.
Casey said she has only had Covid-19 once during the holidays, and even turned down a family holiday to Hawaii so she could keep her perfect attendance record.
Her goal was to become a paramedic.
The Rotorua Daily post reported that next year she will go to the Auckland University of Technology to study a Bachelor of Health Science majoring in paramedicine.
“I want to be the one who can turn someone’s face from being ‘holy crap I wonder if they will survive’ to ‘yes, they are going to be fine’,” she said.
She would work at a supermarket over summer.
