FIFA World Cup: TVNZ confirms how many matches will be available for free

Football fans will be able to watch every All Whites game at next year's FIFA World Cup, as well as a number of other major matches, live and for free on TVNZ.

TVNZ will broadcast all 104 games at the upcoming tournament hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada on TVNZ+, with viewers able to buy a one-off event pass for access to everything.

For those who don't buy a pass, 22 fixtures, including every All Whites game, will be available to watch live and free.

The All Whites' three group stage games against Iran, Egypt, and Belgium – as well as any subsequent matches if they get through to the knockout stages – will air on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+ live and free.

Other games freely available will include the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, two other group stage games, two round of 16 clashes, one quarter-final, one semi-final, and the final.

An additional 11 games from across the group stage and the round of 32 will stream for free exclusively on TVNZ+.

A 16-episode documentary series will also air for free on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+ in the lead-up to the tournament.

“Kiwis are massively passionate about football, and the FIFA World Cup is the biggest stage of all. We’re thrilled to bring fans free access to some of the tournament’s most exciting matches," TVNZ head of sport Melodie Robinson said.

"For football fanatics who don’t want to miss a single second, our one-off event pass is the way to watch every goal and every moment.”

TVNZ has yet to confirm how much the event pass will cost.

It's the first time the All Whites have travelled to a FIFA World Cup since their legendary undefeated run in 2010.

Their group was confirmed at the draw on Saturday morning.
