Emergency services rushed to an intersection in Wairoa during the early hours of this morning, after a car left the road and plunged into the water.
Police were called to the intersection of Carroll Street and River Parade at around 4.10am after a report of a car leaving the road and entering the water.
"Work is ongoing to ascertain if anyone remains in the vehicle," a police spokesperson said.
Cordons were in place, and motorists were asked to avoid the area if possible.
