A man is being sought by police after allegedly indecently assaulting a woman waiting at a bus stop in the Auckland CBD over the weekend.

Graeme Dylan Shuter, 34, allegedly approached two women in a short space of time on Mayoral Dr on Saturday, Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend said.

Around 9.20am, the first victim was approached by Shuter, who allegedly attempted to "grab her and subject her to an indecent assault".

"Fortunately, she was able to hurry away from Shuter and crossed Mayoral Dr."

Minutes later, the man approached a woman from behind as she waited at a bus stop.

Friend said he "subjected the woman to an alleged indecent assault before a passing member of the public was alerted to what was occurring".

Friend praised the member of the public, adding that their actions "stopped any further offending from occurring".

Shuter was last seen running on foot on Mayoral Dr towards Albert Park.

Police have obtained two warrants to arrest Shuter for the alleged incidents, Friend said.

"This is abhorrent offending and it’s a priority that we locate this man and take him into custody to prevent any further harm to the community."

"Shuter’s details have also been relayed to our frontline staff and Beat Team working across the CBD."

Anyone who sees Shuter has been advised to contact police immediately.
