Kapiti Coast homicide: Victim's name released, two more arrests made

Armed police investigating a scene on Kākāriki Grove on Wednesday.

A man who died at a property on the Kapiti Coast last week has been named by police.

He was 45-year-old Micheal Kenneth Tofts.

Police today confirmed a further two men were arrested following search warrants in Naenae and Lower Hutt this morning.

The pair – aged 23 and 35 – were charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police said further charges were likely as the investigation continued.

Three men – aged 20, 25 and 26 – were arrested last week on similar charges.

On November 19, emergency services were called to Kākāriki Grove in Waikanae around 3.15pm following reports of an altercation.

Detective Inspector Jamie Woods said Tofts was found critically injured and died at the scene despite medical attention.

Police were also investigating a potentially linked incident in nearby Paraparaumu on the same day, where a man was found with serious injuries around 4.25pm.

"A large number of investigators are working hard to determine the sequence of events leading up to the death of Mr Tofts, and to identify all individuals involved," Woods said.

"We acknowledge this is an incredibly difficult time for Mr Tofts' family, and we are providing them with support."

Police said a scene examination would continue at the Kakariki Grove address and was expected to be completed within the next day.

Anyone with relevant information was encouraged to contact police on 105.
