Police are seeking help from the public after two people were killed in a crash between a car and a truck on SH1, north of Timaru yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the crash near the intersection of Brosnan Rd shortly after 5pm.
"Sadly, two people died at the scene, while one person was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition," a police spokesperson said.
The serious crash unit attended and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
The road was closed overnight, and reopened this morning, according to New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
The crash involved a white truck travelling south and a silver station-wagon heading north, police said.
Police were also investigating a separate crash, involving different vehicles, that happened about 500 metres north of the fatal scene on SH1 and caused traffic to back up before the second collision.
