New bill 'first steps' towards replacing petrol tax with road user charges
The Land Transport (Revenue) Amendment Bill, aimed at "taking the next step towards a fairer, simpler, and more modern transport funding system", has been introduced to Parliament.
It proposes several changes to both road user charges and tolling frameworks.
Transport Minister Chris Bishop explained that it was about "ensuring New Zealand is ready for the next generation of road building".
Woman sentenced for sharing cannabis-laced cake with hospital colleagues
A Hawke's Bay Hospital worker who took a cake laced with cannabis to a shared meal with colleagues has been sentenced to three months home detention.
The outpatient unit was shut down for the day after multiple staff members ate the cake and felt ill.
Two staff members had to be treated in the Emergency Department.
Lotto Powerball climbs to record-breaking must be won $55 million
Powerball has rolled over to Saturday night, where the jackpot will be a record-breaking $55 million – and must be won.
The $55 million Powerball jackpot is the largest prize ever offered by Lotto NZ and was made available due to predicted strong ticket sales.
Once the Powerball division one prize pool reaches $50 million, the game cannot jackpot over to another draw, so it becomes a must be won draw.
