One dead after crash between car and bus, 30 injured

One person has died following a crash between a bus and a car which also injured 30 other people in Rotorua last night.

Five ambulances and two helicopters were sent to the scene.

Police said the crash on Te Ngae Rd, Ōwhata involving was reported at 9.15pm.

"A passenger in the car was killed, and the driver and a second passenger were critically injured," a police spokesperson said.

"The bus was carrying passengers at the time and fortunately those on the bus only sustained minor injuries."

Another person in a critical condition was taken to Rotorua Hospital, as were four people with moderate injuries.

A further 26 people were in a minor condition, but didn't need to be taken to hospital.

St John told 1News that 10 vehicles attended the incident, including five Ambulances, a rapid response unit, two operations managers, two helicopters and a major incident support vehicle.

Police inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way.
