Labour's long-awaited announcement of a major policy, and Thursday's strike by health and education workers is the backdrop to the Prime Minister's post-Cabinet briefing today.

Christopher Luxon is addressing media and taking questions at the Beehive.

Labour this morning announced it will create another future fund if it wins next year’s election – which would begin with a $200 million investment.

Meanwhile, the Government went on the offensive ahead of a planned mega-strike expected to involve around 100,000 workers this Thursday, with Public Service Minister Judith Collins calling it "unfair and unwarranted" action and saying the strikes appeared to be "politically motivated by the unions".

In response, incoming Council of Trade Unions president Sandra Grey said Collins was "trying to drive a wedge" between New Zealanders.

Elsewhere on the political agenda, two new non-financial sanctions focused on job searches and upskilling launched today under the Government's beneficiary traffic light scheme.
