Police seek man as they investigate woman's death in Pahiatua

Police said it was not clear whether the man they were appealing for sightings of was still in the area or in nearby areas.

Police investigating the suspicious death of a woman in Pahiatua are seeking help from the public on sightings of a man possibly involved in the incident.

A homicide investigation was launched after the woman was found dead near a school on Arthur Street on Wednesday.

Her car was taken from the address, and later found unoccupied at the Blue and Green Lakes Lookout on Tarawera Rd near Rotorua.

Police said it was not clear whether the man they were appealing for sightings of was still in the area.

"We are interested in any suspicious activity or sightings of a man aged 40-50, with a solid build that may have been in the Tarawera Rd area from October 15," a police spokesperson said.

"If you see a man matching this description, do not approach them and call 111 immediately."

The scene examination at the Arthur Street property would carry in to Friday, with the post mortem expected to also be undertaken today.

The missing vehicle has since been removed and would undergo a forensic examination.

Inquiries are ongoing, and at various locations in Pahiatua and the wider Tararua area this week and next week.

Anyone with information was urged to contact police on 105, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
