Police helicopter causes flight disruption at Auckland Airport

The police Eagle helicopter, deployed as part of the Flat Bush operation, caused delays to air traffic near Auckland Airport this morning.

Flat Bush lies within the approach path for incoming aircraft, and Airways NZ confirmed the helicopter was given priority airspace access to support the police response.

As a result, two domestic flights were diverted to Hamilton, while around 20 other flights were held in the air or on the ground.

“Some delays are expected through the morning as operations return to normal and we work to get all flights safely to their destination,” an Airways NZ spokesperson said.
