Police are investigating after a dog had to be euthanised following an attack by a group outside a New South Wales shopping centre last week.
Around 12pm on Friday, a man tied his Rottweiler to a tree on Steel St in Newcastle West before entering a nearby shopping centre.
The man returned 15 minutes later to find the dog "suffering from serious injuries", NSW Police said.
The Rottweiler was rushed to the vet but "due to the extent of its injures, the dog was euthanised".
The dog was believed to have been assaulted by a group of people while it was tied to the tree.
"A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident."
