A person has been airlifted to hospital after a car crashed down a 25m bank near Shingle Creek in Central Otago, police say.
First responders were called to the single-vehicle crash, between Waikaia Bush Rd and Eliot Rd, at about 7.15am. One person has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
The person was trapped, but they were eventually removed from their vehicle, a Fire and Emergency spokesperson said.
Crews from Roxburgh and Alexandra were deployed to the scene.
Police said the car "left the road and crashed down a 25-metre bank."
The highway south of Waikaia Bush Rd was closed earlier, and "road users travelling in the area should follow the direction of emergency services," an NZTA spokesperson said.
"Motorists are advised to expect delays."
Hato Hone St John told 1News it responded with one ambulance, one rapid response unit and one helicopter.
