The Prime Minister expects there to be some kind of Government inquiry into the Tom Phillips case after the fugitive father was fatally shot by police last week.
Phillips was killed in rural western Waikato early Monday last week and a police officer shot, after police responded to reports of a burglary.
Phillips had been evading police since December 2021 with his three children.
Last week, Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Saunders said detectives were still in an evidence-gathering stage to try and identify those who may have provided assistance.
Phillips was on the run with his kids in the wake of a custody dispute. The children are currently in the care of Oranga Tamariki.
Speaking to Breakfast, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said he would expect there would be a Government inquiry of some form into the events that unfolded around the case.
"I think the focus for us is really on the wellbeing of those kids and obviously the recovering officer, that’s really where our focus is," he said.
"As I said last week when the news was breaking at my press conference I think there are a lot of very reasonable questions that need to be answered.

"And my expectation is that there will be a government inquiry of some description, we have to work out the terms of reference of that, to actually ask all the reasonable questions that I’ve heard people ask over the last week.
"And I think that’s the place in which we would get answers and seek answers to those."
Luxon did not mention a timeframe for an inquiry or when one would be initiated.
Phillips had been hiding out in the dense bushland for nearly four years, and police understood he had moved around frequently.
They were continuing investigations in the area, as well as for those who may have assisted him.
