A 30-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police allegedly seized a sawn-off shotgun, ammunition and a "substantial amount of cocaine" from a vehicle in Queenstown yesterday morning.
Around 4.30am on Friday, police stopped a suspicious vehicle on Suburb St.
Police said the vehicle search uncovered a sawn-off shotgun, eight shotgun cartridges, rifle ammunition and what police described as a substantial amount of cocaine. A large number of small plastic bags and electronic scales were also found.
"Illegal firearms have no place in our community," Otago Lakes Central Area Commander Inspector Paula Enoka said.
"Police will continue to focus on disrupting the supply of drugs and hold to account those who are financially gaining through this harm."
The man has been charged with unlawful possession of cocaine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm in a public place.
He is due to appear in Queenstown District Court on October 20.
