US authorities are on the hunt for a wedding crasher who allegedly took more than $100,000 in cash and cheques that had been donated to the happy couple.

The thief was caught on CCTV entering a hall in Glendale, California, that was hosting the event for George and Nadeen Farahat, and he mingled with guests for a time.

According to ABC News, the man then fled through an exit after he grabbed a box guests had been contributing to.

"Really, it's just an invasion of privacy. People write special notes, thank yous, congratulations and that's been taken from us as well," groom George told CBS News.

Nadeen said the theft was "heartbreaking".
