Charges after Gold Coast man's spine broken during Marketplace dispute

Police said members of the group purchased a 2013 Nissan Pulsar from the victim three days before.

Gold Coast Police have charged a man after a 52-year-old was thrown from a building during a Facebook Marketplace dispute last week.

The alleged incident, which occurred on August 9 in Stapylton, involved three people who threw a man from a first-floor veranda onto the ground below.

It is further alleged the man was then assaulted while on the ground, before the group fled in a Volkswagen van.

"The 52-year-old man sustained serious spinal injuries requiring surgery," said a Gold Coast Police spokesperson.

A subsequent investigation indicated members of the group purchased a 2013 Nissan Pulsar from the victim three days prior, and had gone to the address demanding a refund.

"Following further investigations, officers yesterday arrested a 40-year-old Lockrose man.

"He has been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company."

He was due to reappear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 17.
