A Sydney woman has been charged after driving while suspended – with cardboard number plates.
Around 11.30pm on July 4, officers from Bankstown Highway Patrol stopped a Hyundai Veloster on The River Rd in Revesby.
It was revealed the 32-year-old driver had recently had her licence suspended and vehicle number plates seized for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, the NSW Police Force said today on social media.
To get around the confiscation, the woman got crafty, using cardboard and duct tape to make new "plates". Her DIY skills weren't likely to fool anyone, however.
The driver told officers the makeshift plates were fitted because "I had to drive to go see my friend", according to police.
She was charged with driving with a suspended licence, operating a vehicle during the number plate confiscation period, tampering with a number plate confiscation notice, and using a Class A vehicle displaying misleading number plates.
