Police locked down parts of the busy West Auckland mall during the incident.

Police have arrested one person after officers swarmed Auckland's Lynn Mall last night.

About 5pm, officers responded to reports of a robbery at a Batkin Rd address in the suburb of New Windsor.

"A person reported being robbed by two men and threatened with a firearm," police said.

"The alleged offenders fled in the victim’s vehicle, which was tracked by the police Eagle helicopter to the Lynn Mall on Great North Rd."

A police spokesperson confirmed officers temporarily restricted access to the mall as a precaution while officers carried out a search.

"Two occupants of the car entered the mall on foot, prompting police to temporarily restrict access as a precaution. After an extensive search, police took one suspect into custody and a firearm was also recovered," they said.

"Inquiries are ongoing to locate the second suspect."

Police thanked the public for their cooperation during the incident.
