Firefighters have managed to contain a large fire in a hay bale shed near Ashburton, but it is still not out.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said crews were called to an address on Winslow Westerfield Rd shortly before midnight.

The spokesperson said the main shed contained around 8000 bales of hay, and the fire spread to a second section holding up to 6000 bales.
There were 40 firefighters, three trucks and seven tankers at the scene.
A fire investigator was at the scene to establish how the fire began.
Fire and Emergency said crews were expected to be on site for several days.
