Wind, rain warnings updated, some Coromandel highways reopen

Follow live updates as a subtropical storm system targets the North Island.

What you need to know:

  • Strong winds and rain from ex-cyclone Tam have moved down from Northland and Auckland to Coromandel and Bay of Plenty overnight.
  • State Highway 25 around the Coromandel Peninsula has reopened following earlier closures.
  • Power companies continue to scramble to restore supply to thousands of customers across Northland, warning some repairs may take up to three days.
  • Air New Zealand has cancelled some flights early this morning and continues to monitor conditions across the country.
  • MetService has weather warnings and watches in place.
