MetService has issued Orange strong wind warnings for Northland and Auckland, while the former is also subject to an orange heavy rain warning.
Beginning Wednesday night, damage to trees, powerlines and unsecured structures are possible, with heavy rain watches expanded across the North Island.

A former Colorado sheriff’s deputy convicted of killing a 22-year-old New Zealand-born man who called 911 for help has been sent to prison.
Christian Glass called 911 when he got stuck in his SUV, believing he was being followed. Other statements indicated he was experiencing a mental health crisis.
4 Butter, milk help drive annual food price increase - Stats NZ
Stats NZ has released annual figures that show food prices have increased 3.5% in the 12 months to March.
Grocery food that went up 5.1%, and meat, poultry and fish that were up 5.3%, contributed the most to the increase in food prices.
5 Tim Jago's appeal against convictions, sentence to be heard in June
Former ACT Party president Tim Jago will have his appeal against his convictions and sentence for historical abuse of two teenage boys heard in June.
Last year he was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail and finally gave up his battle for name suppression in January this year.

In the latest wave in space tourism, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin launched his fiancée Lauren Sanchez into space Tuesday with an all-female celebrity crew that included Katy Perry.
