US President Donald Trump has announced a barrage of sweeping new tariffs, a moment he promises will free the country from foreign goods.

What to know:

The President announced a series of sweeping 'reciprocal tariffs' on countries worldwide.
Charts showed a 10% reciprocal tariff on New Zealand, based on a claimed 20% tariff charged on the US.
Trump said today's measures would be a "declaration of economic independence".
