New Zealand sprinter Zoe Hobbs has finished outside the medals in the 60m of the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Nanjing, China, this morning.
Hobbs had a nervous wait before qualifying for the final and was one of only two non-automatic qualifiers for the final eight places after narrowly coming third in a time of 7.12secs in the semifinal.
Hobbs finished sixth in the final with a run of 7.13secs.
In her heat earlier in the day, Hobbs cruised home in first, recording a time of 7.18secs.
Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland won gold in 7.04, Zaynab Dosso of Italy was second in 7.06 and Patrizia Van Der Weken of Luxembourg was third in 7.07.
Hobbs’ semifinal and final times were inside her previous season’s best of 7.15 set earlier this year in the United States.
Her personal best is 7.06, which was set last year at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
Fellow Kiwi 60m sprinter Tiaan Whelpton failed to make the final of the men’s event yesterday morning after recording a 6.70 in the semifinal. He ran a 6.62 when coming second in his heat to Australian Lachie Kennedy.
Kennedy, 21, finished second in the final for his first world championships medal.
Whelpton ran a 6.50 in an outdoors event in Canberra earlier this year.
