1 Goff's role as UK High Commissioner 'untenable' after Trump remark - Peters

UK High Commissioner Phil Goff posed a question about whether the US president understood history, during a public Q&A event.

"President Trump has restored the bust of Churchill to the Oval Office. But do you think he really understands history?"

Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters told 1News that Goff’s comments were "deeply disappointing" and made his position "untenable".

2 Cyclone Alfred: Landfall could be delayed as it slows

Millions of Queensland and New South Wales residents are in for a longer wait as Cyclone Alfred slows down as it tracks towards the coast.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the unpredictable system may not make landfall until late Friday or early Saturday, however, there is still a big risk it could make contact from Friday morning.

Right now, Alfred is a Category 2 storm, but could strengthen to a Category 3 before making its forecast landfall between Maroochydore and Coolangatta.

5 Billionaire investor proposes overhaul of media company NZME's board

Canadian billionaire Jim Grenon, who holds a 9.3% stake in NZME, has proposed that the company remove all current directors and appoint four new directors to the board, including himself, according to a notice to the NZX today.

According to Grenon's proposal, a fifth director from the current board would be chosen by the nominee directors.

ONE MYSTERY ODOUR SOLVED

A source of odours plaguing Ōpōtiki residents has been located and rectified but there are still complaints about a bad smell in the town.

A trade wastewater treatment tank at a mussel factory has been identified by the regional council as one source.

Since December 18 there had been 32 odour-related complaints concerning the Ōpōtiki area, 25 of them during February.
