1 Sentencing for 700kg importation of meth in beer, kombucha bottles

A man, who has permanent name suppression, will serve 22 years in prison on four drugs charges related to ephedrine, methamphetamine and cocaine.

The case involved the largest importation of meth to make it across the New Zealand border and come before the courts.

The unnamed man's co-accused Himatjit Kahlan was found guilty of manslaughter of 21-year-old Aiden Sagala, who died after drinking a Honey Bear-branded beer can which contained liquid methamphetamine.

Glass, 22, was shot after he called 911 for help when his car got stuck in a small mountain community.

3 Chemical incident on ship at Lyttelton leaves three in serious condition

Police confirmed that two people were found unconscious in a tank aboard a ship after emergency services were called at 9.40am.

St John said it responded to the "chemical incident" with four ambulances, two rapid response units and two operations managers.

"Four patients, three in serious conditions and one in a moderate condition, have been transported by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital," a St John spokesperson said.

Whelpton recently broke the national 60m record — qualifying for the World Indoor Championships in March.

"My first 60 [metres] is world class, but my last 40 we're just working on the ability to bounce and maintain speed so, once we figure that out, I think we'll be well on our way to nines [seconds]," he said.
