Joe Biden's 'inspirational' letter to Trump revealed

The contents of the letter President Joe Biden left for President Donald Trump has been revealed.

A change of administration in the US has many long-standing traditions, but this more modern trend began in 1989 with president Ronald Reagan when he left a letter for his successor and vice president George H.W. Bush which read "don't let the turkeys get you down".

When Trump first left office in 2021, he left a letter for Biden despite not attending his inauguration.

Biden did not release the letter publicly, but at the time said: "The president wrote a very generous letter ... because it was private, I won't talk about it until I talk to him. But it was generous."

This week, shortly after Trump was sworn into office for a second time, he discovered Biden's letter in the Oval Office after a reporter asked if he had received a letter.

Trump showed the letter to the cameras, which displayed the number 47 hand-written on an envelope. He told reporters he would read the letter privately before deciding whether to release it to the public.

Yesterday, Trump said the letter "was a very nice one".

"Just basically a little bit of an inspirational-type letter. Enjoy it. Do a good job. Important, very important how important the job is."

Today, FOX News reported it had obtained the letter and shared its contents.

It read: Dear President Trump,

As I take leave of this sacred office I wish you and your family all the best in the next four years. The American people — and people around the world — look to this house for steadiness in the inevitable storms of history, and my prayer is that in the coming years will be a time of prosperity, peace, and grace for our nation.

May God bless you and guide you as He has blessed and guided our beloved country since our founding.
