A Canadian man has been arrested at a New Delhi airport after being found with a crocodile skull in his luggage.
The 32-year-old was catching a flight to Canada at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday when he was stopped at a security check.
"Upon examination, a skull with sharp teeth, resembling the jaw of a baby crocodile, weighing approximately 777g, was discovered wrapped in a cream-coloured cloth," Delhi Customs said yesterday on social media.
The man was arrested and charged with violating India's Wildlife Protection Act and Customs Act.
The skull was sent to the Department of Forests and Wildlife for testing, which confirmed it was from a baby crocodile belonging to a species protected under the country's Wildlife Protection Act.
Further testing was required to confirm the species.
Delhi Customs said a "case has been registered, and further investigation is underway".
