The body of former English rugby player Tom Voyce has been found, days after his car was pulled from floodwaters in the UK county of Northumberland.
Police began searching for the 43-year-old on Sunday after he was reported missing after not returning home from an evening with his friends, the BBC reported.
His Toyota Hilux was recovered from the river on Monday, and a major search operation was launched involving Northumbria Police, drones, the police helicopter, coastguard officers and the North of Tyne and Northumberland National Park mountain rescue teams.
In an update today, Northumbria police chief superintendent Helena Barron confirmed to the BBC that Voyce's body has been found in the river near Abberwick Mill.
She said formal identification was yet to take place, but that his next of kin had been notified and were being supported by specialist officers.
"It's an extremely sad development and our thoughts very much continue to be with Tom's loved ones," Barron said.
Officers do not believe there were any other parties involved in the death, and a report would be prepared for the coroner.
Voyce made nine appearances at wing and fullback for England from 2001 until 2006. One of those caps was against the All Blacks at Eden Park in 2004.
