Former England rugby international Tom Voyce is believed to have died after being swept away in a flood caused by Storm Darragh in the UK county of Northumberland.
Police started their search for Voyce on Sunday after he was reported missing after not returning home from an evening with his friends, the BBC reported.
It's suspected that the 43-year-old attempted to cross Abberwick Ford in his car, but the strong current of the river swept the vehicle away.
Officers have since recovered the vehicle and said they believe "in his attempts to escape he has been swept away and tragically died".
Searches are still continuing to find Voyce but police said they were dealing with "very challenging circumstances" because of the increased river flow and a significantly heightened water level.
Voyce made nine appearances at wing and fullback for England from 2001 until 2006.
He earned one of those caps against the All Blacks at Eden Park in 2004.
At club level, he played for Wasps, Bath and Gloucester before his retirement in 2013.
England Rugby said in a statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Tom Voyce at this extremely challenging time."
