1 Four MPs referred to Privileges Committee over Parliament haka
They are Te Pāti Māori co-leaders Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi, and MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke. Labour MP Peeni Henare has also been referred.
Speaker Gerry Brownlee said he received letters from three MPs about the incident, which happened during the vote on the first reading of the Treaty Principles Bill.
The Speaker had previously suspended Maipi-Clarke from the debating chamber for 24 hours, after she led the haka on November 14.
2 Government announces plan to end greyhound racing in New Zealand
Racing Minister Winston Peters said the Government intended to wind down racing over 20 months to enable the rehoming of racing dogs and provide a transition period for those involved in the industry.
The Greyhound industry called it a "devastating blow" that would have "far-reaching implications" for those who work in racing.
Peters said it was "not a decision that is taken lightly" but is “ultimately driven by protecting the welfare of racing dogs”.
3 Suspect in killing of US CEO held without bail after court appearance
The suspect, identified by police as 26-year-old Luigi Nicholas Mangione, was arrested at a McDonald's restaurant in Atlanta after a customer tipped police off.
He had a gun believed to be the one used in last week's shooting of Brian Thompson, as well as writings suggesting anger with corporate America, police said. He was charged with weapons, forgery and other charges.
4 Four killed in two-car Rotorua crash, SH5 closes for inquiry
Emergency services were alerted to the crash on State Highway 5 near Whakarewarewa at about 7.50pm yesterday.
The collision involved two cars carrying seven people, a police spokesperson said this morning.
Police said a section of State Highway 5 would be closed this afternoon as investigators conduct further inquiries around the crash scene.
5 10kg of gift-wrapped meth allegedly found in carry-on, woman arrested
A 29-year-old Canadian woman was questioned by Customs officers after arriving at Auckland International Airport from Vancouver on Sunday.
A baggage search revealed an estimated 10.2kg of methamphetamine wrapped up as a Christmas present, the New Zealand Customs Service said today in a media release.
It would have been worth up to NZ$3.8 million and may have caused around NZ$10.7 million in social harm.
