Coromandel's tourism industry gets back on track, a 100-year-old fulfils a lifelong dream, thrill seeking twins reach new heights, and the world's stinkiest flower blooms in Auckland.

Coromandel tourism boost

After almost two years, the walking track to Coromandel's famous Cathedral Cove has reopened.

The track was damaged following severe weather events, such as Cyclone Gabrielle.

Its restoration coincides with the busy summer season.

Neil Vowles, the owner of The Pour House, said having international visitors back "will be marvellous".

Centenarian completes seven-continent goal

102-year-old Dorothy Smith has proved you're never too old to chase your dreams.

The centenarian from San Francisco has completed her bucket-list goal of travelling to all seven continents, her recent trip to Sydney marking the final stop.

The trip of a lifetime was made possible by the popular YouTube channel Yes Theory.

World's most intrepid twins

A pair of twins has broken a world record by flying a tandem electric paramotor 2400m over the French Alps.

Ross and Hugo Turner, famously known as the Turner Twins, piloted the custom-built aircraft to an altitude of 2438m, soaring above the mountains.

It was a goal months in the making — they had to wait for the "perfect weather conditions".

Pungent flower blooms

One of the world's rarest and smelliest flowers has bloomed at Auckland Zoo.

People have flocked to Auckland Zoo for a glimpse — and a whiff — of the curious corpse flower.

Auckland Zoo's horticulture manager Hugo Bayne said people have skipped work to visit the plant.

It blooms for less than 48 hours and, once fully opened, emits a powerful stench to effectively attract pollinators.

"It's a combination of dead fish, perhaps a little bit of garlic, sweaty socks, and faeces."
