Romero Britto draws Auckland City FC during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Draw in Miami.

Auckland City will face off against German heavyweights Bayern Munich at next year's FIFA Club World Cup in the US.

Auckland have also been drawn against South American giants Boca Juniors as well as Portuguese club Benfica in Group C.

The Kiwi semi-professional club will get the chance to play against the likes of England captain Harry Kane and German talent Jamal Musiala.

They are the only team from Oceania to feature at next year's tournament.

Bayern Munich are the most successful German club, winning 33 Bundesliga titles, as well as claiming six Champions League titles.

Boca Juniors have won 35 Argentina first division titles and have also won South America's Copa Libertadores competition six times.

Benfica are one of Portugal's leading clubs and regularly feature in the Champions League. They also boast a record 38 league titles.

The draw was revealed this morning in Miami with footballing greats such as Ronaldo Nazario, Alessandro Del Piero and former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger all taking part.

Last weekend, Auckland City were crowned New Zealand National League champions after defeating Birkenhead United 2-1 in extra time in the final at North Harbour Stadium.

Auckland City's best finish at the Club World Cup was third back in 2014 with a 4-2 penalty shootout win against Cruz Azul from Mexico.

However, the tournament has been revamped for next year to include 32 clubs from all six confederations around the world.

Instead of a knockout format used in the past, the tournament will now feature a group stage which is similar to the World Cup structure.

The tournament will be held in the US from June 15 to July 13, using 12 stadiums in 11 different cities.

“It’s about inclusivity, it’s about bringing clubs from all over the world, the 32 best clubs and best players from all over the world together,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

FIFA also showed a prerecorded video message from President-elect Donald Trump in which he said football is going “through the roof.”
