White Ferns star Amelia Kerr has shrugged off injury to make a surprise Women's Big Bash appearance, guiding Sydney Sixers to a rain-affected six-run victory over Melbourne Stars.
Kerr, 24, was named Player of the Tournament, as New Zealand claimed the T20 World Cup at Dubai last month, but left their subsequent on-day series against India with a quad tear that was expected to keep her sidelined through much of the Australian women's league.

Sydney entered the contest with two wins from four previous outings and sent Melbourne into bat first. The Stars scored 122/7 from 18 overs, with Annabel Sutherland contributing 42 runs off 36 balls, including two sixes.
Kerr eventually had Sutherland caught in the 18th over, then coaxed Tess Flintoff into a false shot two balls later to stem the flow of late runs. The Kiwi finished with 2/36 off her four overs, despite conceding a six off the final ball of the innings.
The Sydney chase was off to a rocky start, when they lost opener Sarah Bryce in the second over with just one run on the board, but Kerr (46no off 41 balls) joined Aussie star Ellyse Perry (48no off 44) and the pair chased down a reduced target of 104 in 15 overs.
