Morning all, we’re spending the day in Atlanta, Georgia — the capital of one the seven key swing states that Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are fighting hard to win. As such, both candidates have large rallies in the swing state this weekend — we’ll be at both of them for 1News and TVNZ+.
Democratic lawmaker declines to endorse Kamala Harris
Michigan lawmaker, Rashida Tlaib has declined to endorse her party’s presidential Kamala Harris, a rare chip in the iron clad support Harris has received from the overwhelming majority of the Democratic party.

Alongside other high profile Democrats, she spoke at a rally for United Auto Workers union members.
Tlaib, a Palestinian American, has been critical of President Joe Biden’s support of Israel.
While she hasn’t endorsed Kamala Harris, she has been vocally opposed to Donald Trump.
Reproductive rights central in this election
During our visit to Atlanta, we stopped by the Feminist Center, a non profit that provides abortion care in Georgia’s largest city.
After the Supreme Court removed the constitutionally granted access to abortion care in 2022, clinics like these have had to deal with a legal mind field of changing rules.
“It's been devastating,” MK Anderson of the Feminist Centre told me at the clinic.

“You have folks in the phone centre talking about the conversations they have, talking to people about coming in to have care, but then realizing no we cannot see you.’
Kamala Harris has made reproductive rights a cornerstone of her presidential campaign, white, Donald Trump’s position isn’t entirely clear, although he has claimed credit for the overturning of Roe v Wade, saying the decision is best lest with the states.
However, Donald Trump has a lot of supporters in the Southern states calling for stricter controls.
“I believe in speaking up for the unborn, you know, they can't speak for themselves, so we have to,” said one voter.
Inside the Trump campaign
Today the Atlantic has published a lengthy deep dive looking behind the scenes of Donald Trump’s campaign.

It looks into the tone and mechanisms of the mighty operation behind Donald Trump trying to get him elected, but also its wrestling with the man himself who is his own force of nature.
The report looks at how the campaign reacted to Kamala Harris taking over the Democratic ticket — and divide in the Trump camp as to how to respond, some of Donald Trump’s personal nicknames for Joe Biden, and how the assassination attempts changed the race.
It’s worth a read.
That's all for now — we're about to head further south. See you later on 1News at 6.
