1 Police confirm identity of woman found in bag in Auckland's Gulf Harbour

Police announced today the pyjama-clad body found in the water seven months ago was that of Shulai Wang, 70, a Chinese national who came to New Zealand last August.

Acting Detective Inspector Tim Williams said the investigation team has been "working tirelessly" to piece together who the victim was and the events leading up to her death.

"We appreciate there are still many questions the community has in relation to this investigation, and we can assure you our team is working around the clock to find those answers."

2 Man in court charged with murder after Auckland bus attack

Kael Leona, 37, has been charged with the murder of a woman who died in a stabbing on an Auckland bus on Wednesday.

The woman who died is listed in court documents but her name has not been released by police. In addition to murder, Leona has been charged with threatening to kill another woman on the same day and impeding her breathing by blocking her nose and mouth.

His lawyer said those alleged incidents happened after the stabbing.

3 Meth beer case: Himatjit Kahlon guilty of manslaughter

A man has been convicted of manslaughter after giving a workmate cans of beer containing liquid methamphetamine.

Kahlon, 41, gave Honey Bear beers to 21-year-old Aiden Sagala, who died after drinking from one in March last year.

Sagala's family said the guilty verdict had "relieved the pressure and the stress" on them. Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said he was pleased for the family.

4 Flights cancelled; roofs come loose as strong wind hits Wellington

Nearly 30 flights in and out of Wellington were cancelled as strong winds buffeted the capital yesterday evening. The weather's effects continued to be felt overnight.

A FENZ spokesperson said this morning: "Overnight, we received about half a dozen calls due to roofs coming loose and building materials flapping around.

"However, the calls have started dying down," the spokesperson added.

5 Prosecutors recommend Menendez brothers be resentenced

The Menendez brothers, Erik and Lyle, were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the fatal shooting of their parents Jose and Kitty in 1989.

The brothers said they feared their parents were about to kill them to stop people from finding out that Jose Menendez had sexually abused Erik Menendez for years.

Los Angeles district attorney George Gascón said he would recommend the brothers be sentenced to 50 years to life and, because they were under 26 years old at the time of the crimes, they would be eligible for parole immediately.

Auckland FC coach Steve Corica won an A-League premiership title, two championships and the Australia Cup with Sydney FC across five seasons in charge of the club. Now, his new club is facing his old club.

"It would be great to get two wins on the bounce, that's going to make it even bigger for myself," Corica said. "It's a strange one, I'm not too sure how I'm going to feel.

"It's going to be interesting, I feel pretty good at the moment, it's just another game we have to win."

The Department of Conservation has bestowed the honour on Southland's Hump Ridge track near Tuatapere, making it Aotearoa's eleventh Great Walk.

The three-day looping track is the first to be run entirely by its community. It has taken several million dollars and years of work to upgrade it to Great Walk status.
