Mitchell Santner has been named as the Black Caps interim captain for their upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.
Santner will lead the 15-player squad to play two T20's and three ODI's in Sri Lanka.
An announcement on who the long-term ODI and T20 captains are is likely to be confirmed before New Zealand's home summer.
Two players have also earned their first call-up to the Black Caps squad. Wellington Firebirds bowling-allrounder Nathan Smith and Canterbury wicketkeeper-batsman Mitch Hay have earned maiden Black Caps call-ups.
Smith was named NZC's Men's Domestic Player of the Year at the New Zealand Cricket Awards in March, and signed his first central Black Caps contract last month.
Hay made his debut for the New Zealand A side last year and was named Canterbury's male Player of the Year in April.
Elsewhere in the squad, Lockie Ferguson will spearhead a pace bowling group featuring Shane Duffy and Canterbury's Zak Foulkes, alongside all-rounders Smith and Josh Clarkson.
Tom Blundell, Devon Conway, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Will O'Rourke, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Southee and Kane Williamson were not considered for selection as they have opted to prioritise the upcoming three-Test series against England, starting in Christchurch on November 28.
