Police at scene of suspected clandestine laboratory in east Auckland

Police are investigating the discovery of a suspected clandestine laboratory in east Auckland.

Police were called to the property on Cosy Pl in Howick shortly before 2pm following reports of suspicious activity.

"Upon arrival Police located a number of items allegedly consistent with a clandestine laboratory," a spokesperson said.

"A scene examination has been underway and enquiries remain ongoing."

Fire and Emergency NZ said it was at the scene with two fire trucks and a specialist hazardous materials unit to assist police.

A resident told 1News they saw at least four police officers with guns.

Another resident said the police were asking the occupants to surrender over a loud speaker.
