Four people have been taken to hospital with injuries after a car crashed off a bridge in Taranaki early this morning.

Police were alerted to the crash at Everett Park at about 1.20am.

"A car had crashed off a bridge on Bristol Road and gone into the river," a spokesperson said.

"Four people received injuries and were transported to hospital."

A St John spokesperson said two ambulances attended the scene.

Four people were taken to Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth. Two were in a serious condition and two were in a moderate condition.
