Cook Strait crossing woes continue, woman mauled by dog calls for tougher rules, and hundreds flock to new mall.
1 Bluebridge to investigate after ferry loses power in Cook Strait
The Bluebridge ferry Connemara needed to be towed back to Wellington this morning after it lost power and started drifting in the Cook Strait overnight.
The port was notified by the Harbour Master at around 10.45pm.
Bluebridge spokesperson Will Dady said there was "no immediate threat" to those onboard the vessel or to the vessel itself while it drifted.
2 'Ripped to shreds': Dog attack victim calls for stricter rules
A woman mauled by three roaming dogs in a Rotorua street this month has spoken publicly to lobby for stricter rules and enforcement, saying she believes her "local council allowed these dogs to almost kill me".
"It felt like I was being ripped to shreds … I felt their intention and their instinct was to kill me."
Suz Guet, still healing from wounds sustained in the September 3 attack on Sunset Rd, shared her experience at a Rotorua Lakes Council dog control bylaw and policy hearing on Wednesday.
3 Man arrested after alleged stabbing at red lights in Christchurch
The man allegedly stabbed a person in their vehicle in Christchurch's Riccarton yesterday, leaving the victim with critical injuries.
Police said the incident occurred at the intersection of Clarence St and Blenheim Rd at about 5.40pm.
Detective Sergeant James Haigh said the two cars were at the red lights outside a carwash business when a man got out of one car and allegedly attacked the victim, who was in the other car.
4 Guns, abortion and taxes discussed as Kamala Harris goes live with Oprah
Vice President Kamala Harris looked for a boost with persuadable and less-motivated voters as she participated in a livestream with former talk show host Oprah Winfrey to focus on her plans to cut costs for the middle class, restore a national right to abortion and address gun violence.
The event, billed as 'Unite for America', and hosted by Winfrey from suburban Michigan, one of this election's key battlegrounds, sought to tap into the same energy as long-running Winfrey's talk show, which drove bestseller lists and allowed celebrities to share their softer side and everyday people to share stories of struggle and inspiration.
5 'Release the shackles' - Savea says All Blacks have point to prove
For All Blacks loose forward Ardie Savea, the pressure of expectation at home ahead of the Bledisloe Cup showdown in Sydney can easily be put into perspective.
On the one hand, the No.8 and current world player of the year stressed the importance of retaining the famous old trophy – a win tomorrow would wrap up the series for another year and continue a streak that goes back to 2002.
And on the other, Savea said he and his teammates were in the privileged position of being paid to play the game they love when others were nowhere near as fortunate.
ONE MALL OPENING

Hundreds of shoppers flocked to the opening of Mānawa Bay mall, near Auckland Airport, yesterday.
With nearly 100 shops set to be on offer, the outlet shopping centre also includes 14 new eateries, and will have opening celebrations extend over its first month of operation.
More than 20 of the stores and outlet stores are firsts for New Zealand, which include shops such as Lindt, Ariat, Hoka, Guess and Timeless Watches.
