Aussie sparky comes up with novel way to stop public urination

September 19, 2024

A Sydney sparky has come up with a novel way to stop intoxicated pubgoers urinating on his driveway after a night out.

Steve Bodnar told 9News' A Current Affair he's caught hundreds of people urinating on the drive next to his Charing Cross home.

Bodnar's property is located between two pubs, that sees patrons caught short after a few too many.

The electrician said he tried many methods to fix the issue before coming up with what he calls his Tinkler Sprinkler.

"They'll arrive here in an Uber and stop here and then urinate and leave all their beer cans," Bodnar told A Current Affair.

"The chain didn't work, the cameras didn't work, the lights didn't work, the licensing police, the publican, the licensees, the precinct committee.

"I thought the only way I can do this is to maybe wet them."

He explained how after he installed his motion sensor activated sprinkler system the issue cleared up.

"When somebody crosses a line and enters my property I've got a motion sensor up there that picks up the people, turns the lights on, activates the solenoid valve and then the water goes down the pipe and comes out these pop-up sprinklers and theoretically wets everybody and they get a fright and run off."

For added fun Bodnar can control the sprinkler himself through an app on his phone.

The system cost him a few thousand dollars to install.

"It's completely stopped it, people are still coming in and then getting the fright of their life!"
