1 FBI investigates 'attempted assassination' of Former US President Donald Trump

Former US President Donald Trump is safe following what the FBI says "appears to be an attempted assassination" while playing golf two months after another attempt on his life at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Local authorities said the US Secret Service agents protecting Trump fired at a man pointing an AK-style rifle with a scope as Trump was playing on one of his Florida golf courses in West Palm Beach.

In an email to supporters, Trump said: "There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumours start spiralling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!"

2 Thunderstorms could see small tornadoes in Northland

MetService has warned an active front, moving in from the east, will bring storms to the North Island from this afternoon and evening.

There is a moderate chance for thunderstorms in Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula, while Northland has a high chance of experiencing storms.

Wellington could also be hit by thunderstorms, but there is only a "low risk" for the region according to MetService.

3 'People will die': More concerns raised over proposed speed limit changes

A group of local and international road safety experts, academics and health professionals have penned an open letter to the Government over its proposed moves to reverse speed limit reductions, saying it will result in lost lives if it proceeds.

The letter, headed by the Global Road Safety Partnership, is addressed to Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Minister of Transport Simeon Brown.

The letter is in response to the Government's draft Speed Rule that would reverse the previous government's move to reduce speed limits

4 Woman dies with aorta tear after being discharged from hospital

A senior doctor has been found in breach of the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights after a woman with chest pain and shortness of breath was discharged from hospital with a prescription for indigestion medication.

She was readmitted the following day and died the next morning from an aortic dissection - a torn main artery.

The case was outlined in a report published by Deputy Commissioner Carolyn Cooper today. The report states the incident happened in 2018 when the woman collapsed at her daughter's home from chest pain and shortness of breath.
