Jitka Klimková has stepped down as Football Ferns coach after three years in the role.

She was in charge for 39 matches for 11 wins, 21 losses and seven draws, including a victory over Norway at last year's World Cup. She took over a team ranked 22nd in the world and leaves them at 31st.

Following a workplace employment investigation, after which Klimková was cleared to lead the team, she made the decision to step aside for the Ferns' Olympic campaign.

Now, she has decided to step down for good.

“I would like to thank New Zealand Football for the opportunity to coach the Football Ferns these last three years, it was a great honour representing Aotearoa around the world," Klimková said in a statement.

“I very much enjoyed working with the players, the coaches, the support staff, and the many great people in football and high performance sport across New Zealand.

“This experience was a challenge and made me stronger. I believe now is the right time to step away and let another coach carry on."

She will work for NZ Football for the next six months supporting the high performance department and national team activity.

New Zealand Football chief executive Andrew Pragnell thanked her for bringing through a new generation of players, and said she will remembered as the coach who led the Ferns to a famous group-stage victory at the World Cup.

Michael Mayne took the team to Paris and will continue as interim head coach.
