Weta FX wins big

From Wellywood to Hollywood for Weta FX.

The visual effects and animation company has won a prestigious Emmy Award for its work on Netflix show Ripley.

Namely, the Award for Outstanding Visual Effects In A Single Episode.

Weta FX took footage filmed in a small water tank, and transformed it into the open waters of the Amalfi Coast.

Disney film reimagined

A transformation of a different kind for movie musical Encanto.

It has become the fifty Disney animated film to be reimagined in te reo Māori.

The movie tells the story of an extraordinary family who live in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house called Encanto.

Poroaki Merritt-McDonald, who plays Bruno, said he hopes audiences will go home with dignity and pride.

"Just seeing Māori kids, to see that being done in Māori, will always have an effect."

The chase is on

Over in the United Kingdom, a life changing moment has take place for a magician and a teacher.

The pair have become the most successful contestants to ever appear on The Chase.

They have taken home a whopping £100,000 (NZ$213,000) between them.

Host Bradley Walsh said it was a "close" game.

Kayak Slalom in the spotlight

After making a splash at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the popularity of Kayak Slalom is on the rise.

The sport caught New Zealand's attention after Finn Butcher clinched gold at the games.

In the lead up to the Olympics, Butcher spent his time training at the Vector Wero Park in Manukau.

His success is now inspiring a wave of future champions.

Jesse Dowd, the operations manager at Wero said the Olympics put Kayak Slalom on the map.

"A lot of school kids are coming in asking how they can get into it, how they can give it a go."
