Sony's hugely popular PlayStation console is finally getting an upgrade with the launch of a more powerful — if a tad pricey — PS5 Pro.
With more advanced graphics and display, boosting more demanding games at a higher more consistent frame rate, the new console would be on offer in New Zealand for $1137.67.
A PS4 Slim console currently retailed at between $469 and $489.
But Sony was promising the PS5 was worth the hit to the pocket for a slew of new features including AI-Driven Upscaling.
Other enhancements included PS5 Pro Game Boost, which could apply to more than 8500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may also stabilise or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games.
Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games was also available to improve the resolution on selected PS4 games.
PS5 Pro would also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in countries supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming were also supported.
Lead architect Mark Cerny said the PS5 Pro was "the most powerful console we've ever built".
He said the console sought to resolve a problem gamers had faced for years — whether to play a console game in so-called "fidelity mode", which favoured visuals, or "performance mode", which made a game smoother, although reducing the visual effects.
He said the PS5 Pro was about "removing that decision, or at least narrowing that divide".
Kiwis would be able to decide whether the hype was worth the price come November 7 when PS5 Pro would be released in New Zealand.
