A person died in a crash on State Highway 29 near Matamata yesterday.

A police spokesperson said officers were called to the two-vehicle crash shortly before 6pm yesterday.

"Sadly, the person died at the scene."

New Zealand Transport Agency said yesterday that State Highway 29 Kaimai Ranges was closed between Rapurapu Road and Cambridge Road Tauriko.

The Serious Crash Unit has now carried out a scene examination, and the road reopened this morning.
