Vice President Kamala Harris called on Americans to join her to "chart a new way forward" as she accepted the Democratic nomination on Friday.

She argued that her personal story and prosecutorial background made her uniquely qualified to protect their interests and beat Republican Donald Trump.

Taking the stage to a thunderous standing ovation at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Harris sought to introduce herself to the American public and outline her vision for leading the nation for the next four years.

2 Emails between Polkinghorne, Hanna shared in court

Google searches and documents found on a computer owned by Pauline Hanna, who was allegedly murdered by her husband, are being discussed in the High Court in Auckland.

Police constable Madeleine Palmer took the stand on Friday morning to continue giving evidence, which began on Thursday about the contents of laptops owned by Hanna and Polkinghorne.

In November 2020, months before Hanna's death in April 2021, a Google search was made asking "why do people trample over me?", along with searches for the Alcoholics Anonymous website along with saving documents about dealing with extra-marital affairs.

3 Teen girls assaulted and robbed onboard Auckland bus

Two teenage girls were attacked and robbed on a bus in the Auckland suburb of St Heliers last week.

The girls boarded the bus on West Tamaki Rd near the intersection with St Heliers Bay Rd at around 1pm on August 17.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Darvill said a group of young males and females made demands for property from the two victims.

"Both victims were assaulted, one of which sustained bruising to her face."

Team New Zealand got off to a comfortable start on the opening day of the America's Cup preliminary regatta in Barcelona, capitalising on the technical issues of their rivals.

In what was tipped to be the race of the day 2021 America’s Cup challengers Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli took on Team New Zealand in race two, but it ended somewhat abruptly for the Italian team.

After a good start by both teams, the Italians splashed down after rounding a mark, with members of the crew heard shouting "we've lost the boat".

The Italian challenge evaporated due to the onboard electronic issue which shut their boat down for 20 seconds, taking them off the foils and forcing them out of the race.

After a month-long trial, the retirement village purchased several headsets from virtual reality tech company Rendever and will pay a monthly subscription to access more than 700 experiences.

According to Russley Village, the idea is to increase the feeling of "thriving" within a community.
